Fact or Myth 1

Myth- Your Hair grows faster if you cut it every {insert number here} weeks.

Yes and no.. and here's why:

If you have healthy hair, virgin hair, don't use heat on your hair, don't tease your hair, or basically do what tons of women every where do, and what most men don't. Then this statement is fiction for you. If you want your hair to grow, you can get away with cutting it 2 or 3 times a year.. lucky you ;-) I am jealous!

Now if you are like me, I do all of those damaging things, and MORE to my poor hair, haha (and I know most of you do too.. ) and even though I use great salon products on my hair, it still splits and breaks and if I don't cut it every other month, on the full moon (not for any particular reason but my bad memory) it breaks too much and basically cuts itself. So by the time I DO get a cut, I have taken a step back and I feel like I am running in circles!

How do I know this? Oh! I am so glad you asked! ;-)

I did an experiment last year. I really wanted my hair to grow. It had been in a short bob for years. I had move around a few times and didn't know who to let cut my hair.. so I only cut it 2 times in 1 year. My hair only grew 3 inches. :-o.. I know! That is half the speed of normal hair growth! Now since that year, I cut my hair every other month on the full moon (starting 6 months ago) and what do you know?!!! It's grown at least 3 inches since then!

And then it clicked. Even though I should have already known that, I mean it seems to be obvious once it is explained. Well at least for a hair stylist. Lol. So If you are in the 1st group. Don't let a stylist fool you! You are lucky and unless you are trying to maintain a certain length or style, and are trying to grow your hair. You don't need a 6 week standing appt. Even though everyone knows how wonderful it feels after a haircut :-) I know you know what I am talking about. You feel all new and fresh and good about yourself.
Well, that's why I do what I do, I love making people feel great!

So for the 1st edition fact or myth? This one goes either way. Hair isn't a perfect science. Though a lot of these fact or myth posts are going to be either/or.

Until next time, happy styling!
